Mark Barberi, 1965-2014, Rest in Peace

It is with profoundly deep sadness that I pass this along, SUDS’ own Mark
Barberi passed away last night at the age of 49, from cardiac arrest.

Mark was an integral part of SUDS from very early on, along with his
fiance’, Debbie Hafner. Mark was very dedicated to SUDS’ goal of building a dog run and keeping the neighborhood clean and safe for our pets. He helped rescue countless cats
and dogs, ran SUDS FB and was a very dear friend of mine.

Sunnyside will not be the same without him. He was a kind, generous, happy
soul that loved life and made all those around him better people. Rest in
Peace, Mark, you will always be missed….

When I have information on wake and funeral I will pass them along.

It is a great event and this will be SUDS 12th time marching. We are working on an ADOPTION theme to this event and will be inviting local rescues to bring along their dogs with ‘adopt me’ jackets.

R.I.P. ANNIE (Walter’s Dog)

If you have met an Englishman that had a fanny pack full of dog treats on the streets of Sunnyside then you have been lucky enough to meet Walter and his dog Annie.

Annie passed away February 8th, 2014. She was originally a stray that lived near the train tracks along 43rd St. Folks that fed the cat colony there took care of her with food/water. One day she was hit by a car and lived with that broken leg for a few years. She was picked up by Animal ‘Care’ and Control and rescued by a Sunnysider named Maryanne. Walter took Annie in and had her for the last 8 years.

You would know Annie if you saw her, she struggled with that broken leg the rest of her life, BUT it never dampened her spirit. She was such a happy dog, and had the perfect owner in Walter, who doted over her and gave her a happy forever home.

My condolences to Walter. Rest in Peace, Annie.
